Man (22) tragically killed in car crash in Cork remembered as a ‘true gent’

A 22-year-old man who was tragically killed in a single-car collision in Cork on Wednesday morning has been remembered as a “kind lad with a great sense of humour”.

Billy Ring, who was the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident just outside his home village of Carrignavar, north of Cork city.

His funeral will take place on Monday with Requiem Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Carraig-na-bhFear.

On his RIP.ie page it states that Billy, of Island, Carraig na bhFear, Cork (died) following a tragic accident.

It adds that he is the “cherished son of Liam and Mary (nee O'Sullivan) and adored brother of Angie, Leo and Susanna”.

“Billy will be sadly missed by his heartbroken parents, sisters, brother, grandmother Angela (O'Sullivan), uncles, aunts, granduncles, grandaunts, cousins, a large circle of very good friends and also his wonderful work colleagues at Eli Lilly, Kinsale,” the notice reads.

Friends and work colleagues have flooded the condolences section with numerous tributes to the young man, with one that reads: “Billy, the moments we shared were illuminated by the brilliance of your intelligence and the warmth of your wit, leaving an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to know you.

“Your memory will forever find a cherished place in my heart and the hearts of those privileged to have been touched by your presence.”

Another adds: “My Deepest Condolence to the Family of Billy. He was a true Gent, I had the pleasure of working with him on the Pepsi Project last year. May he rest in Peace.”

One other person has written: “Sincere condolences to Liam, Mary, Angie, Leo, Susanna and all the extended family on the sad passing of Billy R.I.P. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle young man. We are so utterly heartbroken for your loss, you are all in our prayers.”

One person said Billy was “so friendly, kind, with the biggest smile”.

“Billy will be so sadly missed,” they added. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you his family and friends at this heartbreaking and sad time. May Billy rest in peace.”

Gardai who are currently investigating the crash have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

“Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6:45am on Wednesday, November 29 at Gortnalahee, Carrignavar, Co Cork,” said a spokesperson.

“The driver and sole occupant of the only car involved in this collision, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.”
