Police in Nairobi are investigating what has been reported locally as the “mysterious death” of an Irish Catholic priest at his house on Sunday.

A caregiver at the house reported to police that the 88-year-old was found unresponsive in his room house in the Gigiri area.

She called the police after unsuccessful trying to wake him up.

Local media reports that police in Nairobi have now launched investigations into the death of the deceased, who is described as “an Irish native”, after he was found dead.

“It was after the priest remained unresponsive, that the caregiver informed the police,” Nairobi News reports. “Officers who visited the house found the priest dead.”

The police said in a report that the caregiver had reported that the priest “has been battling high blood pressure and other health complications”.

Police further said the deceased did not have any visible injuries at the time he was found inside his house.

Police visited the scene and helped to move the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

It has further been reported that police are hoping the results of an autopsy will reveal more about how the priest died.

Gigiri is an residential estate in Nairobi which is home to Kenya's large expatriate community, one of the largest in Africa.
