A Dublin councillor has slammed an act of anti-garda vandalism in a local park as “completely unacceptable”.

Sinn Féin councillor Derren Ó Brádaigh, who represents the Palmerstown and Fonthill areas, shared an image of a vandalised climbing wall in Airlie Park in Adamstown, which recently opened to the public.

The wooden structure was defaced with the words ‘garda rats’ and ‘D22 run it’, which were written with black spray paint. The culprits also demonstrated their artistic skills by spray-painting some images of pigs and male genitalia.

Cllr Ó Brádaigh took to social media to condemn the “sheer wanton vandalism” as he confirmed that he had contacted both South Dublin County Council and the gardaí about the incident.

“Just being brought to my attention. Sheer wanton vandalism in our newly opened Airlie Park is completely unacceptable!” he wrote.

“I've also just went in through Tandy's Park only to see more graffiti. I've asked South Dublin County Council to remove as soon as possible and separately I am raising this with An Garda Síochána”.
