Waffle the detector dog helps seize herbal cannabis worth €900k at Dublin Port

Waffle sniffed out the illicit drugs that had originated in a consignment from Belgium and were discovered in a pallet containing parcels within a fridge unit.

“Today, as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Waffle and members of An Garda Síochána, Revenue officers seized 45kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €900,000 at Dublin Port,” Revenue said in a statement.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.

This is just the latest in a series of seizures made by Revenue detector dogs after ‘Milo’ helped bust one million cigarettes in North County Dublin this week

The illicit cigarettes of various brands including ‘Richmond’,’ Marlboro Gold’ and ‘Mayfair’, are estimated to be worth more than €894,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €704,000.

A man in his 70s is being quizzed following the seizure.

Milo was also in action last week when he helped seize chewing tobacco worth nearly €543,000 at Dublin Port.

Revenue officers discovered the 987kgs of chewing tobacco as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of Milo.

The illicit tobacco, which represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of €542,850, originated in India.
